The World of Bella Sara Review

Team Mom sent me Bella Sara trading cards and although my 5 year old son wanted them - I passed them on to my nieces. The cards are very cool (especially for little girls) and feature beautiful horses. Each pack contains codes where you can go to their website and download horses and things for interactive play.

There are lots of horses to choose from, but one of my favorite is this one. If you have a daughter I highly recommend these great trading cards.

Nature's Most Amazing Events DVD Review

Our family is a tad geeky. We watch the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and the Science Channel. We probably own over 150 documentaries and we especially love nature based programming. Geeky? Well, maybe not. Where else can you see such pure and amazingly innocent creatures?

BBC Earth recently (6/16/09) released "Nature's Most Amazing Events" on DVD and Blu-ray (click title for a preview). I received a copy of the DVD, thanks to Mom Fuse, to review last week and we loved it. The DVD is packed with over 5 hours of incredible footage. The different episodes include The Great Melt, The Great Salmon Run, The Great Migration, The Great Tide, The Great Flood, and The Great Feast all narrated by David Attenborough.

I have watched a lot of these types of documentaries and I still learned a lot from this one. Did you know that the salmon from the Pacific die after spawning, but the Atlantic salmon don't? I didn't know that. I never heard of the Arctic narwhal whale either, but there is such a thing and it has a unicorn type tusk.

From BBC Earth:

This series employs state of the art photo-real satellite views from space, combined with revolutionary aerial techniques, stabilised camera mounts on boats, ultra high speed shooting, motion controlled photography and lapse time techniques pioneered on Planet Earth.

The Nature's Great Events team captured extraordinary wildlife footage, some shown for first time on television, including:
• Aerial footage of the amazing migration of the mysterious Arctic narwhal whale, with its unicorn-like tusk
• High definition footage of polar bears feeding on seals, struggling to survive as they hunt in broken ice and fall through
• The sardine run filmed with three crews in full high definition - underwater, aerial and on the surface
• Pioneering the boat stabilising mount to film the sardine run - previously only used in Hollywood feature films
• A shoal of sardines 15 miles long surrounded by thousands of sharks; 10,000 gannets raining down on a shoal of fish and a super-pod of 5,000 common dolphins - all filmed using the high definition helicopter mount
• Cape fur seals coming ashore to snatch gannet chicks from their colony
• The eruption of the Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano in the Serengeti - the first eruption since 1964 - filmed in HD from the ground and the air
• The epic scale of the wildebeest migration from the air
• Grizzly bear families emerging from their dens, in snowy Alaska, filmed with gyro-stabilised cameras mounted on helicopters
• A pack of wolves attacking an adult grizzly bear in North America
• High speed cameras film grizzly bears chasing down salmon in shallow water, showing their power and grace
• Underwater footage of bears catching salmon using their feet - filmed by producer Jeff Turner, who swam among them
• High speed cameras filming up to 2,000 frames per second reveal how salmon leap over three metres through the air to clear waterfalls
• Film of the Okavango Delta flood at every level - from macro to aerial photography
• A young elephant attacked and killed by a pride of lions in broad daylight
• Elephants using their trunks to siphon water from the top of dirty pools
• Underwater crew capture humpback whales engulfing a whole herring bait ball in one giant gulp
• A pod of killer whales attacking and killing a huge male sea lion
• Bubble netting by humpback whales filmed from the air and on the surface, together with incredible sound to illustrate the co-operative fishing behaviour of these few select whales.

If you enjoy nature this is a must own 2-DVD collection of beautiful footage. The price right now on BBC America is $25.98 for DVD and $29.98 on Blu-ray. Check it out!

Let's Go Camping with Eureka - Review and Giveaway

Eureka, for those of you who don't know, specialize in various camping gear. I was recently offered the chance to review their kid's sleeping bag line. Whenever I have the chance to review something that is for my kids I always give them the choice first and when I asked James if he would like to try one of these

he about fell out on the floor. James LOVES camping and up until now he always had one of those little boy sleeping bags from Wally World. He was so excited about the opportunity to own his own "big boy" sleeping bag that he wanted me to give it to him right then.

When the bag arrived (he meet the FedEx man at the door every day for a week) he was freaking out!

I made him close his eyes.

From the minute he saw it he was in love. Unfortunately we had no plans on camping that weekend, but he didn't care. He wanted to try it out right away. The bag came in its own case - none of those velcro straps that you wrap around the bag to keep it rolled up. (I hate those straps. They rip the sleeping bag apart and always get in the way.)

We unwrapped the bag for him to check it out - here is what that looked like:

Being the 5 year old he was, he had to try it out from every angle.

All in all, this is how it ended - with a grin!

Product tested and approved. Now, a week later - the sleeping bag is still a hot item. He sleeps in it every night on his bed waiting for our next camping trip. Every time someone comes over he has to show them all the cool features of his sleeping bag. It's very cute.

My favorite feature is that once you child is zippered up there is a fold over velcro clasp that keeps the zipper in place (see the exclamation point in the picture above). James' favorite feature is the "secret hiding place" inside the sleeping bag (see pic below). He found that it fits his DS perfectly.
The bag comes in four styles: minnow (featured in this review), grasshopper, ladybug, and lightning bug

The temperature rating for the bags is between 30 and 45 degrees - perfect for camping. The craftmanship is top of the line and I expect this sleeping bag to be around a very long time. I know you want one for your little one, don't you?

The Giveaway:

To win this awesome sleeping bag you must visit our sponsors website and tell me something you would like for your camping trip. Additionally, YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH YOUR FIRST ENTRY!

Twitter Party: Bedtime With Elmo #SesameSleep

Come celebrate the upcoming release of Bedtime With Elmo, from Genius Products and Sesame Workshop, with us on Twitter this Monday, 6/29. We’ll be giving away a total of 10 copies of the Bedtime With Elmo DVD and a Graco Suite Solutions Pack n’ Play to one lucky Grand Prize winner! Check out the details below.

Bedtime With Elmo – Available 7.7.09 – It’s bedtime on Sesame Street! Just like all little kids, Elmo and Abby would rather make funny faces and sing silly songs than go to sleep. Luckily, Elmo’s dad Louis knows just how to deal with extra glasses of water and little monsters who are afraid of the dark. Parents will love the practical strategies Louis uses to get Elmo and Abby to go to bed, and children will love snuggling under the covers with this timeless DVD. Featuring the special extra of Andrea Bocelli singing “Time To Say Goodnight” to Elmo. Amazon.com

After all the 4th of July festivities, children across America will be feeling the same way as Elmo in Bedtime With Elmo and Sesame Workshop is here to help! Check out these great tips from Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street.

Bedtime Tips For Parents – Bedtime can be a wonderful time to bond with your child and help them feel safe and secure. Here are some fun and simple ways to make bedtime enjoyable and to help your child get a restful night’s sleep!

Establish a Consistent and Positive Bedtime Routine

Help your child transition to bed by having predictable activities that take place at the same time each night, such as going to the bathroom, brushing teeth, getting into pajamas and reading stories. Children can be comforted by routine and benefit if their bedtime schedule is followed as regularly as possible.

Quiet Playtime

Help your child wind down from the day by getting him into pajamas earlier than usual and engaging in relaxing activities like reading, playing a quiet game, doing a puzzle, or drawing together. Give him extra long cuddles before putting him to bed!

Sharing Special Moments

Talk to your child about her day before going to sleep. Ask her to choose a favorite part of the day and discuss why it was special. Encourage her to think of something that she is looking forward to doing tomorrow as she falls asleep.

Bedtime Stories

Help your child choose a favorite book at bedtime. After reading the story, ask him what he thinks his favorite character might do to get ready for bed. Talk about ways his bedtime routines might be similar or different. Remind him that everyone needs a good night’s sleep to feel rested and energized in the morning!

Glimmer of Light

Help your child feel safe when sleeping in the dark by placing a small night light in his room or hallway. You can also let him keep a small flashlight under his pillow to help him feel safe. Talk to him about how he is feeling and let him know that while it is okay to be scared, reassure him that there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark and you are always close by if he needs you.

Sweet Dreams

Provide your child with a quiet, cozy and comfortable bedroom for her to sleep in. Your child should look forward to sleeping in her room and feel safe and secure. Allow her to have her favorite blanket or stuffed animal nearby for comfort when going to bed. You can also set up a CD player to play soft calming music or lullabies as she falls asleep.

Those tips are great, but don’t sleep on this Twitter Party! Here are the details and how you can win!

Four ways to win!

1. RSVP to our Twitter party by signing the Mr. Linky. (1 DVD winner will be chosen by RSVP)

2. Follow us on Twitter:

Once you’ve followed all three Twitter accounts, leave a comment on Mom Fuse. (1 DVD winner will be chosen from comment left on Mom Fuse)

3. Tweet this message anytime between today and Monday 6/29:

We’ll be giving away copies of Bedtime With Elmo and our grand prize from Graco randomly to party goers! Make sure you are following all the Twitter accounts mentioned above, join in on Tweetgrid using the #SesameSleep hashtag, share your best sleeping tips, learn some new tips from other moms, and share photos of your sleeping angels.

We will be choosing one DVD winner from the RSVPs that are left here – one DVD winner from the comments on Mom Fuse – eight random DVD winners throughout the hour of the twitter party along with the grand prize winner which will be announced at the end of the party. In order to be entered for the grand prize, you must actively tweet with us between now and Monday 6/29 during the party.

Kids & Summer Sports: What Is Your Sport of Choice?

As many of you know from an earlier post I decided to put my children into karate for the summer. Although my 16 year old is excelling and loving it (he has two stripes on his belt already), my youngest just isn't into it. So now what? I looked around the web to find an alternative sport and came across ResponsibleSports.com - have you seen this site? There is a section about responsible sport parenting that was helpful in getting my mindset right to tackle the sport issue again with my 5 year old. Check it out if you can...

As a parent I think it is our responsibility to encourage and reinforce the positive aspects of youth sports. I thought karate would be great for James, but maybe I am wrong. I think however, it is my responsibility to encourage him to try. I think he wants to do it, but I think he is being shy or maybe he is afraid to fail? Either way only time will tell. He is excited about his big brother's accomplishments and he loves watching the other kids play. I need to be patient because that is my job as a parent. I'm not having to pay for classes since he doesn't actually go in the room, so the only thing I'm out is my time.

James, my "spirited" child needs to have an activity that will keep him engaged and busy. I was thinking soccer, baseball, football, or swimming (but we have no access to swimming). If he decides that karate isn't for him I want to be able to give him other ideas.

What sports do your children participate in? I would really love to hear what works for you.

Wow! Jumeau Handbags Review and GIVEAWAY

I'm a handbag freak. Most women are. So, when Jumeau approached me to do a review on their products I was excited. I was also leery. Although their collections looked really nice, I was concerned with the quality. I had won a handbag from another company on a blog a while back that I thought looked really nice, but when I got it I was disappointed. It was cheesy looking and very poorly made.

I picked two bags. One medium sized bag from the Now Collection and one large sized bag from the Institution Collection. From the Now Collection I choose the Fancy bag and from the Institution I choose the Florian.

Jumeau is a company based out of Missouri, but once you look at their products you would think they are in the heart of NYC. Their goal was different from most companies in that they wanted to design accessories that complemented your body. They wanted to utilize premium materials, designs, and craftsmanship while still being environmental friendly. Not only did they want to offer a 45-day, 100% satisfaction guarantee, but they wanted to offer a 5-year replacement warranty.

They exceeded my expectations. When the bags arrived I was amazed at the quality. I was also amazed at the size. They consider the Fancy bag a medium-sized bag, but I can fit my kitchen sink in it. It is a pack rats dream come true. If they had made this bag when Let's Make A Deal was still on television (do you remember that show?) I would have won - hands down. I love it! It features double outside pockets with a quick close clasp, a zip closure with antique bronze pull-tabs and hardware, internal zipper pocket, full internal organizer, built in key-keeper key chain, and adjustable strap.

The Florian in Pine was equally impressive. It is a fun, sturdy laptop bag for everyday use. I got a million compliments on it. Although it is not big and bulky, it will hold everything you need in your traveling office. I fit my laptop, camera, cords, mouse, and files in the bag easily without it being bulky.

Although I did not review a belt, they also have a huge line of fashionable belts like this:

Jumeau is hiring too! This might be a great opportunity for a stay at home mom with fashion sense. You can become a fashion specialist for Jumeau. For more information on this opportunity look here.

The folks at Jumeau want one of my readers to try their product and have graciously offered a $75 Gift Certificate toward the purchase of their choice! I know you want it!

THE GIVEAWAY: In order to be eligible for this giveaway please visit Jumeau and tell me what product you would buy with your gift certificate (other than those listed in this review). Don't worry, if you win you can choose whatever you want! Leave your email address or twitter ID so I can contact you.

Want additional entries? (Leave separate comments for each entry)

4. Technorati fav my site! (1 entry)

Traveling with Kids Can be Fun: MagnaPlay Review & Giveaway

Summer is here and traveling with little ones can be a nightmare! We had a six hour drive over Memorial Day when we went to Gulf Shores for a small family vacation and if it weren't for James' Magnakase I would have had a seizure. It kept him entertained for hours. The Magnakase is made by MagnaPlay a company who understands kids.

The Magnakase we reviewed included the MagnaPlay Magnetic Coloring Travel Set and the Magnetic Wooden Number Match Set.

The MagnaPlay Magnetic Coloring Travel Set includes:

· 1 MagnaKase - Magnetic Dry Erase Activity case with 2 magnetic surfaces.
·
4 double-sided Reusable Color and Erase Search-A-Word coloring puzzle (8" X 10" sheets). These coloring pages should be used only with dry erase markers.
· 2 magnet strips (8" X 1") that secures coloring pages to the activity surface, for coloring with crayons, color pencils or markers while on the go.
· Foohy Washable dry erase, low odor, thinline markers 6 count (Manufactured by Sanford Corporation).
· 1 eraser.
The 2" x 1 3/8" x 11 1/16" eraser is made from recycled material (wood and felt) and is virtually indestructible.
The Magnetic Wooden Number Match Set includes:

30 colorful wooden tiles that fit together to form 3-piece number (1 - 10) picture sets. They are 4" x 4" tiles with full magnetic backing.

Both are very durable. James carries his with him EVERYWHERE! He loves that everything is all in one place and that he can carry his artwork and tools together. He treats it like a briefcase and it is fun watching him put all the numbers together and count.

Note: I have been trying to get this review done for MagnaPlay for months, but my video camera is on the fritz. I can't get audio to work and the video keeps timing out. I'm sorry there is no sound, but I'm kind of thankful you can't hear James' potty mouth. I think he said "freakin" twice in two minutes. LOL - the pout and mean face at the end was in response to telling James it was time to put away the MagnaPlay to take a bath!

The people at MagnaPlay want you to try their product and have decided to give on of my readers their own MagnaPlay Magnetic Coloring Travel Set.

The Giveaway:

To win this awesome toy you must visit our sponsors website and tell me something you learned about them that was NOT mentioned in this review. Additionally, YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH YOUR FIRST ENTRY!
