Libby's Fruitification of America Review & Giveaway

That was then
and
this is now!

Libby's is introducing 6 oz. jumbo cups in September. The fruit flavors? Diced Peaches, Diced Pears, Mixed Fruit and Cherry Mixed Fruit

The new containers are much sturdier (perfect for a packed lunch), easier to open and packed with more fruit (50% more fruit than found in most 4 oz. packages). You will still get the same fresh fruit flavor (straight from California) in every bite. I know because I got to try each of the flavors before they hit the shelves. My favorite? Cherry Mixed Fruit, of course.

School is right around the corner and these Jumbo Cups are the perfect solution to making sure your loved one is getting their daily recommended allowance of fruit. Did you know that the U.S. produces more than 650 million pounds of cherries a year? Insane! You can learn more about fruit facts, Libby's and Fruitification of America by visiting Libby's Fruitification of America's website.

Being in the know is fun and Libby's wants to offer one of my blog followers a sneak peek at the new Libby's Jumbo Cups BEFORE they hit the market. You can win 2 cups of each flavor for a total of 8 cups!

THE GIVEAWAY: Visit Libby's Fruitification of Ameria and share a fun fruit fact from the site. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

I'm Watching For The Truck...

I just placed my order with CSN to complete my bedroom! We got new nightstands recently and I ordered a couple bedside lamps for them. I'll be posting a review as soon as I get them and have a chance to test them out. Exciting? Yep! I'm tired of trying to read by the light of the television...

If you get a chance, familiarize yourself with their products. They have great stuff ranging from mattresses to pillows!

So, where's that truck?

Asian Food Grocer Review & Sushi Giveaway

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I am an Asian food freak. Most of the meals I cook are either Thai, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Indian, or Chinese. If you haven't already you should check out my recipe for Lumpia, a Filipinio Egg Roll that is out of this world.

Unfortunately for me the nearest Asian Market is almost an hour from where I live and our local supermarkets just don't cater to Asian cuisine. Recently I was approached by Asian Food Grocers to try out their site and their product line. There is a gummy candy that I buy every time I go to Atlanta called Kasugai Muscat Gummy. They are a family favorite here. I have only tried two flavors because that is all the store carries, so I was excited to see that the Asian Food Grocer carried a wide range of flavors including grape, apple, mango, and pineapple. We decided to get the grape and apple flavors. They were yummy - my favorite was apple. It isn't a green apple taste, but a juicy red apple flavor. You really should try them some time.
Since we eat a lot of rice I thought I would order some rice bowls as well. We use them all the time for everything from rice to fruit. They are the perfect size for controlled portions and the price is just right for me ($1.30 each). I think I need to order more since I only got 4, but I wanted to make sure they weren't going to arrive broken or that they might be made cheaply. They were all wrapped individually for shipping (an incredible job) and the porcelain is delicate yet durable (dishwasher safe).

Although I didn't order any refrigerated or frozen items, they do carry them. They also carry many of the spices and other staples that I can't find in my local store. The prices are great too! I was very impressed. Of course they don't carry everything, but they are great for your miscellaneous and household items (such as seaweed wrap, tofu, noodles, tea pots, and chopsticks). They also have a blog where they share recipes and other great information.

The Asian Food Grocer has offered one of my readers their very own Silver Sushi Combo Set. This set includes: a Sushi Cookbook, Gourmet Roasted Sushi Nori, Calrose Rice, Wasabi, Sushi Powder, Ginger and a Bamboo Mat for rolling your own sushi. I LOVE SUSHI!THE GIVEAWAY: Visit Asian Food Grocer and let me know what item interests you the most. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

A Long Day...

Last night I started getting a terrible headache and my shoulder and arm were sore. It felt like I had been lifting weights (but the heaviest thing I've lifted is my coffee cup). Anyway, I just didn't feel good - and I had a small fever so I went to bed at 10:30 (2 hours earlier than usual).

I woke up this morning and my arm felt a bit better, but my headache was still bothering me. About an hour after being up I realized my neck was bother me as well. Day #2 and I just didn't feel good. As the day progressed my husband decided to make a doctors appointment for me.

Did I mention that I hate going to the doctor? I hate anything that has to do with medicine. I'm the type of person that will suffer through a headache (which happens frequently, unfortunately) instead of taking an ibuprofen. Lucky for me I don't get sick. It is very rare for me to even get a cold. I can only think of two times I was sick in the last 9 years - both times were pneumonia (probably because I put off going to the doctor).

As a mom I am always the one who has to take care of everyone - I just don't have time to be sick. I'm sure a lot of women can relate to this. I think the power of positive thinking helps a lot. I try not to dwell on getting sick, therefore I don't get sick.

Anyway, today I went to the doctor and she about fell over when she felt my shoulder. Apparently my muscles in my neck and shoulders were so tight it made her tense. She asked if I had ever had any trauma to my back or neck or had ever been in a car accident. Nope, I have never even broken a bone, no surgery, nothing - ever. So, she goes on with the check up and finds I have an ear infection (didn't even know it). She also found drainage from allergies. She did a trace EKG to rule out the pain in my arm yesterday as heart related - clear. Diagnosis? She thinks I may have some degenerative bone loss (or some thing like that) going on in my neck/spine. Now I have to go have X-rays of my spine and neck. For now I'm supposed to pop Amoxicillin twice a day for my ear infection, Loratadine for my allergies, and Flexeril twice a day for my muscle spasms. I'm not supposed to apply heat to my neck and shoulders, not lift anything, and take it easy. My husband is a massage therapist and I'm supposed to get massages (LOL - not going to happen) to help with the tightness.

Now I remember why I'm not too fond of going to the doctor. I hate taking medicine. I hate having restrictions. I hate feeling helpless. So, I'll take the medicine as best as I can (which probably won't me too often) and until someone sends me a maid and babysitter I will continue to lift, clean, vacuum, cook, etc.

How do you handle restrictions due to illness when you are a mom?

McKLinky Blog Hop: My Crazy Kids

Ethan's hair got cut - but as you can see, it is still long. Maybe I'm old, but I just can't understand how he can stand looking at things with all that hair in his eyes.

When James was a baby (up until age 2) he always had a mohawk. I loved it - he hated it. Last week he was playing with his cousin Emily and she made him "crazy hair" - took about 5 minutes before he freaked out and had to wash it.
Permanent markers and balloons don't mix.

Recipe: Stacey's Meatballs

Stacey from Realtor Girl NJ shared a recipe on twitter with me the other day and I asked if she would like me to feature it on my blog. She was pretty excited about sharing the recipe, so without further ado:

Stacey's Meatballs

Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
3/4cup flavored breadcrumbs
2 eggs
¼ cup cold water

4 cups roughly chopped Portobello mushrooms- double if you love mushrooms
(I have also made this with a variety of mushrooms)
S&P
Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 ½ cups cola soda (I use diet coke/pepsi)
Serve on egg noodles or a rice/grain

  1. Combine first 4 ingredients into meatballs-
  2. Spray a skillet with oil spray and heat, cook/brown meatballs. Drain and remove meatballs, leaving a small amount of fat in the pan.
  3. Add roughly chopped Portobello mushrooms to pan and sauté (just to heat the mushrooms is enough or you might have to add some oil spray). Deglaze with ½ cup of cola soda- immediately return meatballs, add mushroom soup and combine using a whisk adding another ½ cup soda. Continue cooking, you will probably need another ½ cup of soda for the right sauce consistency.
Great over noodles or rice.

A bit about Stacey:
I live in central NJ and sell Real Estate. As a Mom and wife always cooking, I'm also always looking for new recipes and ways to make my Family say, “Mom, I love this” and “Don’t forget this one!” or “Make this again soon!” My kids are 20 &16, I’ve been at this for awhile, lol. This twist on meatballs is great; they become rich and very tasty with excellently paired flavors inside and out! (If you can cook a brisket with soda, why not meatballs!?)

I love shoes, cruising & sushi! Active social media girl since the inception of CompuServe!

Review and Giveaway: Nu Skin for Men

I always have reviews for the ladies, therefore I thought it was time to offer the men something. My darling husband LOVES when I accept a review for men - especially when he likes the product. Today we are going over Nu Skin Dividends Complete Set for Men (shave cream, aftershave balm, and antiperspirant/deodorant).

Shave cream: Hubby said this is more like a shave gel - it doesn't foam up like most shaving gels. It gives you a nice close shave, but you have to use a lot. Overall he liked it for its close shave, but if you are speed shaving - this isn't for you. (I have no idea what "speed shaving" is - but I think it means if you are in a hurry.)

Aftershave balm: Hubby said the aftershave balm felt good after his shave, but he felt that the shave cream alone left his skin moist and didn't irritate.

Antiperspirant/deodorant: Hubby said it worked pretty good. He is very picky about that kind of stuff too. He sweats sitting on the couch watching television, so if he said it is good - it must be!

Overall the Nu Skin line worked well for him and he gives it an 8 on a scale of 1 through 10 - retail price $42.28 for all 3 products. On a side note, I was given the Tru Face Skin Perfecting Gel (retails for $51.78) to try and I really liked it. It didn't make my face greasy and it helped control breakouts. I had 0 complaints about it.

Nu Skin has offered to give one of my followers their entire Dividends line: Shave Cream, Aftershave Balm, and Antiperspirant/Deoderant...

THE GIVEAWAY: Tell me your favorite Nu Skin product. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

Summertime Fun: Crayola Play Sand Review & Giveaway

Crayola comes out with the coolest stuff! Their new play sand is the newest summertime product that adds a bit of color to your boring sandbox. We tried a sample of the different colored sands (pink, blue, purple, and green) last week and had a blast.

The sand is really soft and fine, just like the sand you would find at a tropical beach. My main concern was the color coming off on clothing, but it didn't (yeah!).

Although the sand is sold in easy carry 20# bags, we just had a smaller sample that we used to pour into a bottle. My son had a blast making his own sand bottle and the colors were really nice together (although they become a mish-mash of colors if you shake the bottle). So, even if you don't own a sandbox - this would be great for crafting!

I think it would be cool to see how it looks when mixed with regular sand in a sandbox. I imagine it would be like playing in a fantasy sandbox - how cool!

You can find the Crayola Play Sand bags at Wal-mart and retail for about $6.47. However, Crayola wants to give one of my readers enough sand to fill their own sandbox (about 8 - 10, 20# bags)!

THE GIVEAWAY: Tell me your favorite Crayola product. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

It's All in the Name: The Complete Idiot's Guide to 40,000 Baby Names Review & Giveaway

Sometimes naming a child isn't easy. I know when I was pregnant with my first child it took us forever to pick the name that was just right for him. I bought every book I could find and made a list of about 25 names. Still, none of them seemed just right.

About a week before my scheduled induction (I was on bed rest with toxemia and I was being induced) the phone rang. It was my mom. She was so excited and she said, "We have the name for the baby!" At that exact moment in time an Ethan Allen commercial came on television. My mom told me that my dad was in the bathroom and told her to call me because he thought we should name the baby Ethan. And so it was.

Today there is a book called The Complete Idiot's Guide to 40,000 Baby Names (2nd Ed.). If I had owned this book back then I would have found his name on page 351 and it wouldn't have taken 8 months to figure it out. This book is nothing like the books I had when I was pregnant. Not only does this book have lists of names, but it has the most interesting stuff.

For example, did you know:
  • Aquinnah is the daughter of Tracy Pollan and Michael J. Fox
  • Kal-El is the son of Nicolas Cage
Or maybe you are looking for names the reek intelligence:
  • Ida (Tacke) a famous physicist of the 20th century
  • Blaise (Pascal) a famous mathematician from the 1600s
You can find the top baby names by country, state, year, and decade. You can even find out the most popular names for twins. There is so much fun and interesting things in this book that you don't even need to be expecting to enjoy it.

You can find The Complete Idiot's Guide to 40,000 Baby Names (2nd Ed.) on Amazon.com and in major bookstores around the country. You can even get one here! That's right, I have one for a lucky reader!

About the author:
Marcia Layton Turner (Fairport, NY) has written about a wide range of pregnancy and parenting challenges. She is also a best-selling author of more than 20 books. Her work has appeared on websites like iVillage.com, and in magazines such as Parenting, Woman's Day, and BusinessWeek, among many others. Turner and her husband know how hard choosing a baby name can be. They settled on a name for their first child months before he arrived but had to actually meet their second child before they chose a name for her.

ISBN: 9781592578412

Beware: New Scam "Green Tree Gifting Program"

Today I was called by an older woman I used to work with about a great "gifting" program. She was so excited about it since she has been out of work and short on cash. As she told me about how she "gifted" $25 and has been finding others to "gift" and in return she will get eight "gifts" of $25 I was alarmed. I told her to send me the information. I didn't have the heart to tell her my suspicions.

So, 15 minutes later I get a call from a strange number (650) 355 - 0315. I didn't answer. I did, however search for the phone number online and found it was registered to Linda XXXX. Four minutes later I get this email from a Pat Pastor with the same phone number. Attached to the email are a bunch of documents such as this and this. They even posted their website. Can you believe they even released a Press Release? It is a glorified pyramid scheme - taking money from the vulnerable. I hate things like this.

If you don't know how a pyramid scheme works, here is the idea: you "gift" $25, you find other people to gift $25, they find other people to gift $25 - with each "gift" you get closer to the top (or middle in this example because they call it a circle). Once you are at the top you get all the $25's that others are gifting. Once you collect your $400 you gift $50 to get on the next pyramid. This works the same way...but eventually there isn't anyone to find to "gift" $25 or the pyramid gets busted by the FBI and you lose all the money you invest. Generally, the people who dream up the scheme are the only people who make money. You'll notice they say you should ACT QUICK or that it is PRIVATE or INVITE ONLY - all because it is highly illegal and a federal offense!

What did I do about it? I called the FBI and reported it. Unfortunately they are bogged down right now with reports about various scams and by the time they get to mine a lot of people are going to be out a lot of money. The only thing I could think of doing to help was to blog about it. If you or anyone you know gets invited into this "Gifting Program" - run!

JumpStart Virtual World Review and Giveaway

My oldest son (now 16) grew up on JumpStart products. At the age of 3 he was playing JumpStart Preschool. For 15 years Knowledge Adventure has been developing children's educational software. We've been with them almost since the beginning. They now have a 3D Virtual World online that my youngest son has been experimenting with.

I'm a big fan of educational software for kids. Since computers aren't going anywhere soon, it is a great way for little ones to get used to simple keyboarding skills while having fun and learning all at the same time. Your child can explore through Storyland (ages 3 - 5) and Adventure Land (ages 5 - 7) visiting friends such as Frankie, CJ, and Hops.

The downside of reviewing the new online environment? My 5 year old has been competing with me for use of my laptop! He loves the virtual world and enjoys all the places he has to discover. He especially liked designing his character (but he didn't like his shirt choices - he is pretty picky about clothes). He is funny, he really wants to jump in the water and swim, but so far the program hasn't allowed him to do that....

One of my favorite places to visit is the JumpStart Blog for parents. Here you can find learning tips and other great things to keep your child's learning interactive. There are project suggestions of fun things to do with your child such as sponge painting and sing-alongs.

For parents who prefer owning software and not working online - maybe because you have a slower internet connection, don't worry. JumpStart still carries actual software too.

It is never too early to learn and JumpStart wants to offer your child to play in their virtual world! One lucky reader will win a 3-month subscription to the online environment for their child(ren). Each child in the household can have their own profile - no sharing necessary.

THE GIVEAWAY: Visit JumpStart and tell me about something that looks interesting to you that I did not mention in my review. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

Additional entries can be earned by:
2. Follow my blog or if you are already following - tell me who you are. (1 entry)
3. Blog about this and link back to me or email 5 friends about this giveaway copying me on the email. (5 entries)

Non BlogHer Party! We Aren't Going So Let's Party!

Partially sponsored by Wall Talk Online - Check them out here!

Stefanie from Mommy's Quite Time and I are bummed and from what we are hearing there are a lot of women out there (and some men too) who are equally as bummed about not going to BlogHer. Almost every tweet on twitter refers to BlogHer and it is almost impossible for you to read a blog without something about it. Don't get me wrong, it is an awesome event, heck, I wish I were going...but I'm not. A lot of us aren't.

Well, a group of us decided since we weren't going - we'd have our own party! Our "NON BLOGHER PARTY!" and you are invited! We will be LIVE on Stickam, July 24th (Friday) at 9:30 EST hosting our own event. Stefanie and I will be talking about things going around on the blogosphere and addressing anything else you want to talk about. (add Lisa and Stefanie)

SWAG? Well, a NON BLOGHER PARTY wouldn't be a party if we didn't have something to giveaway, right? We have you covered. We have some great stuff already, but we are looking for more. Do you have something you would like to include in our giveaways for the night? If so email momof2boyswifeof1@gmail.com or bloggymommy3@yahoo.com with your donation. Can you hear us companies? Just because we can't make it to BlogHer 09, doesn't mean we aren't worthy! At the end of the night we will be doing a giveaway of all the SWAG we collect - so don't miss out!

Grab our button, post it on your blog, and come join us -
