Guess What? Cereal and Laptops Don't Mix

The news? My son came to me this morning, "Mommy, I'm sorry. I accidentally spilled my cereal on your computer." I'm not sure how I did it, but I didn't yell and I calmly walked into the kitchen where my laptop was to see the damage. However, there was nothing to see because my 5 year old cleaned it up before I got there.

Needless to say, I am without a laptop now and won't have the money for another until late September - please be patient with me....I'm about to have a nervous breakdown.

Starting a New Job...

As some of you already know my degree is in Psychology and Business Management and today I am going to put my degree to work. I'm starting a new FT job as an Human Resource Generalist for a local company. My focus will be project based: training/development, affirmative action officer, policy/procedure and other tasks such as developing an employee handbook, etc. I'm excited - but I'm also a bit nervous.

I plan on keeping up with my blog and I'm working lots of hours on The Product Review Place as well. I know I can do it because honestly, I love blogging and PR. I hope to make it my FT career some day. So, any advice on how to work FT, outside the home and maintain both sites?

Back-to-School: Sonic Boom Alarm Clock Review & Giveaway

School starts Monday and I'm starting a new job. If it weren't for the Sonic Bomb
Alarm Clock, I would be somewhat nervous about it because my teenage son isn't the easiest person to wake up and I won't be here to do it. Sonic Alert has designed a line of alarm clocks for boys and girls that feature extra loud (113db) adjustable tone & volume, flashing lights, and a powerful 12-volt bed shaker. We have been using it for a week now to test it and there is no way he will ever miss the bus with this alarm clock. The bedshaker is pretty amazing. I wish I had owned this when I was married to his father - that man slept like the dead (but that is another post for another time).

The Sonic Bomb alarm clock is perfect for guys and comes in stealth grey with red controls and pulsing lights. The Sweetheart is the ladies version in hot pink with a multi-color display. They each sell for $42.95 (MSRP) and can be purchased from their site here or from Amazon.com here.

Sonic Alert has offered to give one of my blog followers their very own Sonic Boom - either the Sonic Bomb or Sonic Sweetheart (pictured below).

THE GIVEAWAY: Visit Sonic Alert and tell me something that wasn't mentioned in this post. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

PBS Kids: Sid the Science Kid & Dive Olly Dive DVD Review & Giveaway

If you have a young child, you probably are already familiar with "Sid the Science Kid". You can find him on PBS every morning. Did you know that the Emmy-nominated PBS series is produced by The Jim Henson Company and KCET-LAHe? I didn't. Distributed by NCircle Entertainment, the newly released DVD, The Bug Club, features 4-half hour episodes for two hours of viewing pleasure. Also recently released was Change Happens.
Sid is an inquisitive child who begins every show with a question, such as"Why do dogs bark?" and the rest of the episode is filled with an educational adventure to answer the question. My 5 year old is a huge PBS Kids and PBS Sprout fan, so I have seen every episode. We can't wait until September for the release of 5 new episodes. You should try to catch it!

We haven't caught "Dive Olly Dive" so we were excited to review Ship Shape Sub. It's the cutest show about a little sub named Olly and his friend, Beth. They are submarines-in-training who teach interesting and educational facts about ocean life and lessons on life, as well. You can find Olly on PBS Sprout.

All three DVDs were a hit with my 5 year old - his favorite? Change Happens

Where do you purchase these great DVDs? You can purchase them at most retailers, directly through NCircle Entertainment or online at Amazon.com for $12.99 (MSRP)...or you can win all 3 here!

THE GIVEAWAY: Visit Sid the Science Kid and tell me what time he is on where you live. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

Learning Curve: Super Why Review and Giveaway

Learning Curve recently asked me to review their role playing Super Why play sets and now I get to share it with you! My son is a huge Super Why fan. Have you ever seen the show? It's brilliant. He has learned so much watching them on PBS every morning. It is a really great educational show and if you get the chance you really should try to watch it.
My son is 5 and he loves "dressing up" which makes the Super Why Role Play Set perfect for him. It includes the Super Why Cape, Mask and Electronic Why Writer that lights up and says various Super Why sayings. He loves wearing it and even has wore it to the store several times. The only downside, because he is so active, is that the cape is held on with Velcro and I had to add another piece of stronger Velcro to keep it on. It's probably because he wears it 24/7. They also have one for girls fashioned around Princess Presto and her Magic Spelling Wand. These sets are just perfect for children age 3 and up.

These are not the only educational toys in the Super Why line from Learning Curve, they have lots to choose from. The Wave & Learn Magic Spelling Wand is great for teaching your little one their alphabet, letter sounds, problem-solving, and other important skills.

Update: @ResourcefulMom had a great idea for these role play sets - Halloween is coming up and these would be GREAT, inexpensive costumes for your child(ren)! (That's why they call her resourceful.)

THE GIVEAWAY:
Learning Curve has offered to give one of my readers their own Role Play Set. Mandatory Entry: Visit Learning Curve and come back here to share your favorite Super Why product. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

Additional entries can be earned by (please leave separate comments):

Back-to-School: LapWorks Gamer's Desk Review & Giveaway

LapWorks asked me to review their Futura Gamer's Desk w/Regular MouzPad and Max MouzPad recently. I was very excited because my son, my husband, and I all use laptops while sitting on the couch and for whatever reason our laptops all get really hot and burn our legs. Using a pillow or similar object helps keep our laps from burning, but our fans laptops get blocked. With that being said the LapWorks desk has great ventilation throughout that allows air to flow.

The Futura Gamer's Desk has three parts that easily connect or disconnect from the main piece. Don't be timid snapping the pieces together - this desk is tough and it is made out of really tough material. I love the MaxMouzPad. It is large enough to use freely without having to reposition your mouse over and over. However, if not supported on your leg or by a pillow it feels a bit flimsy. Another great selling point is that when you aren't using the Gamer's Desk, it folds in half for easy storage.

The idea behind the LapWorks Gamer's Desk is that it is for gaming and can accommodate either a laptop or keyboard. It has built in notches to hold cords and it is large enough to hold whatever accessories you need for gaming. Although it is great for gaming, I believe it is useful for bloggers or students who use their laptops while sitting on the couch or propped up in bed. I use it every night.

LapWorks wants one of my readers to try the Gamer's Desk!

This is what you will win:
Futura Gamer's Desk w/Regular MouzPad and Max MouzPad

Back-To-School With GoPicnic Review & Giveaway

I hate making lunch for my kids at school and they hate the food at school. GoPicnic is the answer to my prayers. I was so excited about trying their product and I was not disappointed either. Not only do their ready-to-eat meals feature all natural ingredients, but you can find meals for Vegetarian, Halal, Kosher, and Gluten Free diets as well.

The meals come in cute little boxes that open up into a little picnic. Kids love it and adults do too. This is the perfect answer for people like me who hate to take breaks from their busy schedule. I'm starting a new job in a couple weeks and plan on keeping a few of these meals (that don't have to be refrigerated) in my desk. Here are some of the meals I tried:

Mighty Munch Meals:

Safari Munch
Chips, Salsa & Crunch!
Vegetarian, Halal, Gluten-free, Soy-Free, Egg-Free, Fish & Shellfish-Free

Includes Salba Smart organic tortilla chips, Ortega mild salsa, Sheffa zesty snack mix, Mrs. May's sunflower seed crunch, Sweet Perry Orchards natural strawberry applesauce, and Enjoy Life snickerdoodle cookies.

Only $5.99!

My 5 year old son at this one for lunch one day last week. He loves the idea that these come in a little box, just for him. The salsa was the perfect bit of spice for a little one and the applesauce was super yummy (his words). I ate the sunflower seed crunch and it was good too.

Go Meals:

GoEnergy
Hummus & Crackers
With 23g of protein and 12g of dietary fiber! No egg, fish or shellfish ingredients.

Includes Wild Garden hummus dip, Pita Break flax & honey lavash crackers, Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame, Mariani dried cranberries, and an Almond Roca toffee candy.

Only $4.99!

I absolutely LOVED the Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame. The Wild Garden hummus dip was very lemony and I just didn't care for it. All the other stuff was pretty good - especially the Almond Roco toffee candy.

GoDeli
Salami & Cheese
One of our most popular meals! Contains no fish or shellfish ingredients.

Includes Old Wisconsin beef salami slices, Copper Cowbell Asiago cheese spread, Late July classic rich organic crackers, Mariani Ultimate apricots, and a Brent & Sam's soft & chewy chocolate chip cookie.

Only $4.99!

The only thing missing was a full-size napkin, otherwise this is perfect for those days when you just don't have time to leave your desk for lunch. The apricots are moist and flavorful and I love Asiago cheese.

Break Meals:

ZestyBreak
Turkey Pepperoni & Cheese
Contains 13g of dietary fiber & 32g of protein! No Fish & Shellfish ingredients.Includes Bridgford turkey pepperoni slices, Copper Cowbell Asiago cheese spread, Mary's Gone Crackers whole grain crackers, Sheffa zesty snack mix, Mariani Ultimate apricots, Lärabar Apple Pie fruit & nut bar, and Swiss Delicato dark chocolate.

Only $6.99!

This was the only meal that came with the awesome picnic themed napkin (which I love). The turkey pepperoni slices were really good and the crackers were good as well. The Apple Pie fruit & nut bar was the only thing no one tried. It just didn't look appetizing, but the dark chocolate more than made up for it!

I think the only thing that would make these better is if they put the picnic themed napkins in every box along with the wet-naps already included. I would also like to see some that included beverages. Did I mention that some of the meals had little tattoos for the kids? My son LOVED that surprise.

Now, GoPicnic has offered to let 5 of my readers to try out
4 different products of their choice!

You can order GoPicnic at www.gopicnic.com and use the special 20% code: GPMOMS

SuperShoes.com & Sofft Felicity Shoe Review & Giveaway

Have you seen SuperShoes.com on twitter? You can find them at @Supershoes_com if you aren't already following them. I have recently been given the opportunity to test their site and review a pair of shoes from their Sofft line. I chose these:

About the site:

Supershoes.com's site makes shoe shopping fun. They have a lot of features you don't find on other shoe sites, such as the “return-o-meter” which tells shoppers if a certain product has a high or low return rate. Some products even have videos of the shoe actually on someones foot to give you a better idea of the fit. Another great feature is that they allow product reviews from customers that aren't moderated, therefore you get the good and the bad. My favorite feature is their unique options to “love,” “hate,” “tag,” and “share shoes.” You can track the shoes you love, hate, tag, and share and they are stored under “My Activity.” You can also see what shoes other people loved, hated, and tagged.

Not only does SuperShoes.com have great features, but they have great shoes too! You can choose from Skechers, Timberland, Born, Bostonian, Carolina, Clarks, Wolverine, Dexter Bowling, Softspots, Sofft, Me Too, Double H, Browning, Quark, Harley-Davidson, b.o.c., Hi-Tec, Naturalizers, Nurse-Mates, and Supremes.

About the shoe:

They are called Felicity from the Sofft line and they are adorable! I love them. They are fun and flirty. They are made out of a very soft calfskin leather and feature a 1 1/2" Leawood stacked heel. The thong sandal is padded through out with heavier padding on the heel. They come in a variety of colors: pink, white, silver, patent leather black, and lime (although it looks more like lemon).

I have never owned a pair of shoes that cost $92.95. I'm a frugal person and I could not understand the value of paying that much for a shoe. However, my attitude about price has been changed by this review. My $20 shoes are cute, but they are NOT comfortable for long periods of time. I wore my Felicity shoes for two weeks, up to 9 hours at a time while shopping, and I never once had to kick them off to rest my feet. Now I understand why people pay so much for a quality shoe = comfort!

Have you ever owned a shoe that you just didn't want to take off? Well, here is your chance!
SuperShoes.com has offered one of my followers the chance to win ANY SHOE of their choice from the Sofft line!

Winner of the Complete Idiots Guide: 40000 Baby Names Giveaway

I wanted to do something different to find the winner, so I made tweeters pick!
Congratulations Heather!

NOTE TO ALL WHO ENTER MY GIVEAWAYS:
Today a fellow blogger received an email from a "reader" asking her to fix the giveaway so that the "reader" would win. The "reader" offered to pay the blogger half of the retail value if she would keep refreshing Random.org until her entry was first. DISGUSTING! If you would ever think of asking a blogger to rig their giveaway, please do not bother to enter any of mine! I can't even begin to tell you how wrong that is! My mom has been entering my giveaways religiously and I never once thought to make her a winner - EVER! She did win SoftSoap from me, but 29 other women did too. I don't care if you offer me full retail price, you can't buy me!

With that being said, Heather has 48 hours to contact me with her information or I will sell the book to the next highest bidder (just kiddin)!

Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters Review (Updated)

Dear General Mills:
I noticed you have stopped by to read my review and I wanted to say thanks for visiting. Since you are here, I also wanted to know why you haven't left a comment? Was there something I forgot to mention in my review? They were yummy and I do admire your company for being on the safe side with your recall. I was wondering, however, why I wasn't invited to the Greet N' Meet coming up with GM? I'm really disappointed because I think my readers would have loved to hear more about your products on my blog.

Do you think you could invite me next time?
Love ya,
Lisa

MyBlogSpark.com recently sent me their new Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters to sample. What are they? They are small clusters of nuts and granola with a bit of honey. They are also 100% natural, which is always nice. There is something about salty sweetness that goes together nicely. The four flavors are Nut Lovers, Roasted Almond, Roasted Cashew and Honey Roasted Peanut.

The Nut Lovers (pictured on right) feature cashews, pecans, and peanuts with granola and a touch of honey. My favorite? Roasted Cashew! Beware, these are crunchy and stay crunchy even after being opened for 2 weeks (comes in a great resealable bag), so if you have brittle teeth this may not be the snack for you.

Want a $1 off coupon? Visit Nature Valley - a General Mills company.

NOTICE:
General Mills announced on 7/8/09 a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of "Nut Lovers" flavor Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters product containing pecans. This action is being taken as a precaution because pecans received from a supplier and used in the product may be tainted with salmonella.

Only specific Nut Lovers flavor products with five specific “best if used by dates” are being recalled. The five “best if used by dates” are:

* 07MAR2010
* 08MAR2010
* 09MAR2010
* 10MAR2010
* 11MAR2010

No other flavors or varieties of Granola Nut Clusters products are involved.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the "Nut Lovers" Granola Nut Clusters product, and no other types, varieties or flavors of Nature Valley products are being recalled.

If consumers have any questions or concerns they may contact General Mills toll-free at 1-800-231-0308.

I find it very admirable that General Mills took precautions, voluntarily to recall these products. The "Nut Lovers" I received were not involved in the recall, however please be sure to check the dates when purchasing this particular flavor.

Did you notice I didn't post today?

Well, there is no big reason other than I GOT A NEW JOB! I haven't started yet, but I had to get more organized to ensure I am able to keep up with my blog and TPRP with no change. You wouldn't have believed my kitchen and bedroom - there was product everywhere! I love doing reviews, don't get me wrong, but I have boxes full of miscellaneous stuff to review and/or giveaway.

I have something very exciting coming up next week that I am dying to share with you, but I can't just yet. I hope that you will all be around to support my cause... I can share this news though, I'm going to NC to review the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord next month. I'm so excited and can't wait to share the trip with all of you! You have to check out this incredible water park they have there...

Tomorrow I will be posting a new review/giveaway - maybe even two...so have a great night and see you in the morning (or afternoon). (UPDATE 8/5: Didn't have time to write up the review today, so be on the look-out for it tomorrow!)
