@lisasamples Thursday Thoughts: Mamavation (Week 5)

I lost weight last week. I also busted my butt. Katie did too. We rocked it...

How is any of this possible? Well, without our sponsors, sistahood, family/friends, and Leah it would nearly be impossible. #Mamavation works, because together we make it work. Our sponsors such as Earth Footwear, EA Sports Active, Smooth Fitness, Gruve, Gaiam, Tracey Mallet, Pete Cohen, Dr. Renna, and others give us the tools to be successful as the Mamavation Moms. The Sistahood keep us motivated and accountable. Our family and friends (especially our FIT Friends like Erin from The Mom Buzz) give us support. Leah coordinates it all to make it happen. Without any one part of this formula I'm not sure how successful I would have been over the past 5 weeks. Thank you.

Here is a confession:

A couple weeks ago there was a time or two where I thought of quitting. The thoughts usually came when I was over tired, when I didn't feel like working out or doing another 10 minutes of fitness, or when I was really craving a french fry or toasted bagel dripping with butter. When those feelings came I was able to put myself in 'check' quickly because I realized my brain was trying to take the easy way out. It's easier to lay on the couch and eat bon-bons than it is to change your lifestyle. But the long term consequence of that behavior is suicidal.

I'm 43 years old. I have been obese for the past 16 years. If I stay this way I probably wouldn't have another 16 years to live. Is that worth a french fry to me? I think not. I want to live another 40+ years. I want to enjoy my children and my grandchildren. I don't want to be dependent on blood pressure medication and medication for my cholesterol and future inevitable diabetes medication. I choose life over death.

This is the body that lives underneath what I see in the mirror:

8th or 9th Grade (1980)

High School Graduation (1985)

I'm going to find her again and I owe a lot of that to you. I love you, thank you for helping me live.

I am in LOVE! Come See Why...Frigidaire!

You might remember me mentioning that I was chosen as a Frigidaire Test Drive Mom and received an awesome Professional Series refrigerator earlier this month from Mom Central, but I haven't really mentioned it since then... I wanted to get familiar with it and make sure that what I post is my true, honest opinion. So, here it is....It is by far the best thing I have ever owned! I love, love, love, love it! For years I have had just a normal, everyday refrigerator and I never realized how horrible it was until now. I always wondered how someone could justify spending money on a fridge, but I truly understand it now. My old fridge was not big enough for a family of four and we had to buy another used fridge for the garage to keep beverages and frozen items in, as well as any leftovers. Now we have one and it is plenty big enough to hold everything.

Since I cook a lot I own more condiments than any normal person. I also have bunches of fresh fruit, herbs and veggies for various recipe requirements. My friends are always teasing me saying that if you need it, Lisa has it in her refrigerator. I think next week I'll show you a video of the inside and you can tell me if you think I have too much...lol.

Right now Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner’s newest campaign to support Save the Children, called Spin & Win are offering you a chance to win prizes including a new time-saving Frigidaire Affinity washer/dryer. Plus every day you take a spin, Frigidaire donates $1 to Save the Children as part of their $250,000 commitment to this worthy cause. Please take a spin and see if you win. It will help Save the Children and you will get a chance to win a rockin' washer/dryer!

“I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive Campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Frigidaire and received a Frigidaire Refrigerator to facilitate my review.”

Pirate Is Saving My Booty! Healthy Snack Food Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

The winner: Angie Lilly! Congratulations
Yes, you read that right. Pirate Brands offers a healthy snacking alternative for those of us who just can't give up the occasional chips and popcorn treat. I have to admit that a sandwich just isn't the same sometimes without a cheese puff or something like that...

I've now tried all the products that Pirate Brands makes and am happy to report that they are all pretty good. My favorite is the Smart Puffs. They have lots of different flavors including Veggie, Sour Cream & Onion, New York Pizza, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Aged White Cheddar, and Barbecue. Their snacks are baked and are made from all-natural ingredients such as puffed rice and corn. Each serving has roughly 130 calories, not bad. Did I mention they are gluten-free and contain no trans fats? For nutritional information check out their product page.

Granted, I do not eat these everyday, but they are a great occasional snack for the healthy lifestyle changes I'm making. How would you like a case to try for yourself?GIVEAWAY: One lucky winner will receive a case of Pirate Brand product. Thursday Thoughts: Mamavation (Week 4)

Have I told you how much I love my @EarthFootwear? I do. You have to get a pair if you are serious about losing and toning - they are simply amazing!

Last week was challenging. I was having a difficult time balancing my life. I was torn between working out, menu planning, husband, kids, dogs, work, blog, The Product Review Place, twitter, Mamavation, BookieBoo, @Pete_Cohen, and everything else. I totally forgot about LISA! The result? I shut down. On Friday of last week I realized what was going on and I kicked my mental butt and go refocused. This week I've made the promise to myself to spend a little time for myself and to get more rest.

I am changing my exercise routine a bit this week and doing a bit more TaeBo since I really enjoy it. I'm also going to tackle intervals on the treadmill. My diet seems to be easy enough so I should be good there...but I'll re-weigh on Monday and if there are no results then I'll make more changes.

This week is different - I'm pushing myself and doing great!

I'm glad all my sisters are so awesome and are supporting me on this journey. I couldn't do it without you.

Short, but sweet today...playing catch up from James' bday!

Lisa

Do All Boys Go Through This Stage?

My youngest boy has this weird fascination for my boots. His dad has a fit every time he sees him wearing them. I don't like it either - not because they are girl boots - but because they cost $110. I keep telling him they are girl boots, but he doesn't care. He said he loves how they sound when he walks and they feel good. Yesterday was his birthday and one of the things he wanted was a pair of boots just like mine. I showed him tons of black cowboy boots they make for boys, but he wasn't interested. He wants heels and he wants them just like mine.

I found him asleep with my boots on.

I remember my oldest son used to wear my pantyhose when he was little and he turned out to be just fine. He never wears women's clothing anymore. So, is it normal for little boys to want to wear their mom's things?

@LisaSamples' #Mamavation Post (Week 3)

Confession: I'm kind of in a rut the past few days. It seems like my schedule got so hectic all of a sudden and I'm having a hard time prioritizing my time. I know working out has to fit in there somewhere. For those of you who work outside of the home I'm sure you understand (or at least I hope I'm not alone). I've been eating right - except today I broke down and had 10 peanut M & Ms. I don't feel guilty about having one or two every once in a while, but today I had a hard time not going back for another two and another two...until I finally just grabbed the last four and shoved them in my mouth like some kind of addict.

Tuesday was a bad work out day for me - or pretty much a non-existent work out day. Yesterday I did better, but today I still have 155 calories to burn before my Gruve turns green....and that is a lot when you just want to go to bed. I think it is time to get back listening to my Pete Cohen 28-day challenge. His program really inspires me to think positively and to do well. He is, after all, the weight loss guru! At least I'm getting the extra calorie burn from my Exer-Walks that I received from Earth Footwear while walking on my awesome treadmill from Smooth Fitness.

My Fit Friend, Erin, from The Mom Buzz had a giveaway a few weeks ago that the winner never claimed and lucky me - I won these awesome work out towels by Words to Sweat By. In the spirit of #Mamavation the rules were that I could pick out 2 towels - one for me and one for someone to help motivate them working out. I picked the "There will be no jiggle in my wiggle" towel and I'm going to give one of my Mamavation Sistas the "No Excuses" towel. I believe choosing which Sista to give the towel to would be nearly impossible...therefore I will pick one random Sista who leaves a comment on my post here at Mom of 2 Boys. This is only for my Sistas because you all motivate me and love me and you deserve something nice for it!
This is the perfect workout towel for my mood today!

Celebrate Valentine's Day with Eden Fantasys Giveaway and Review

Warning: Content in this post is rated-PG - however, Eden Fantasys does carry inventory that rank from PG to X.

I wanted to do a post for Valentine's Day for Eden Fantasys, but I really didn't know what to review. I asked the rep just to send me whatever she thought would be good and I would figure out a way to work it with my blog. Actually, after having decided to be surprised, I was a bit nervous. However, there is so much stuff that Eden Fantasys sells that her choice of what to send worked out great!

Wanna know what I got?
Silk Whisper Mask
Passion Candle

The candle was very cool. It states that it can be used 3 ways: a mood enhancer (smell), erotic fun play, or for hot oil massage. Since my hubby is a massage therapist I trusted him to do the hot oil massage with the candle, but only after I put on my sexy blind fold. I was leery, but the candle only heats to 101 degrees and that is a very safe temperature for most people (please test your sensitivity prior to use). So, I got a nice hot oil massage last weekend and enjoyed the mood enhancing scent of the candle. However, there was no erotic fun play involved - sorry, but I'm off until Valentine's Day...lol.

The mask? I wore it for the massage and I did make hubby wear it once (he would NOT allow me to take a picture). However, I NEVER go to sleep without it on now...EVER! I wear a c-pap mask and wearing the eye mask under it stops my mask from leaking air and allows me to sleep more soundly. I know that isn't the most romantic storyline, but it is the truth. I love it!

Now, since I didn't get to share a sleazy sex story with you, I want to give you a chance to WIN a $25 GC to Eden Fantasys AND the awesome candle I reviewed (not my used one).

GIVEAWAY:
One lucky winner will receive a $25 GC to Eden Fantasys and a Passion Candle. Entry: Visit EdenFantasys site and tell me which scent you would love to try. Leave a comment below with your contact information.

Additional entries can be earned by (please leave separate comments):

Thursday Thoughts: Mamavation (Week 2)

Well, time is flying and I realize I have a lot of work to do still. I have definitely made some huge changes since we started, but I don't think they are true habits yet. According to Pete Cohen it takes roughly 21 days for something to become a habit. (Plug: Check out Weightloss Guru!) I do believe that water is now a habit since I did the official switch on January 2nd, but I still have a way to go with food and fitness. Orientation is over - now it is time to kick butt!

My family is adjusting to our lifestyle change much better than I expected. I haven't bought soda in weeks and no one has asked me to. I don't seem to have as much control over what they eat or drink when they aren't home, but I'm working on that. Yesterday my son was at his aunt's house eating pop-tarts and chocolate covered sunflower seeds.
Tonight's Dinner: Grilled Salmon Salad
Oh, did I forget to mention that I have lost 16.6 lbs? Yep, I have! Katie is doing great too. She has lost over 5 lbs! Amazing...

I got my Earth Footwear shoes this week and they are pretty amazing. I can feel the difference when I walk - especially uphill. I'll have one awesome set of legs and tush when I am done, thanks to them!

My treadmill arrived today too, but I have to call Smooth Fitness tomorrow to find out how to adjust the belt. I really wanted to use it tonight, but it just didn't work out. I walked about 30 minutes, but was unable to run because I was afraid the belt wouldn't cooperate and I didn't want to break it. I did, however, plug in my iPod into the stereo that is built into it to listen to my workout music.

Speaking of music - what is on your iPod for working out? Leave me a comment with your workout tunes!

Misikko.com's Hana Elite Professional Flat Iron Review (and Giveaway) + $25 Charity Donation

Misikko.com gave me the opportunity to review the Hana Elite (that sells for $229.99) from their professional flat irons line. I also received some shine shield to use in conjunction with the flat iron. Before I go much further I have to tell you prior to owning this the flat iron I had was bought at Wal-Mart. It was my very first flat iron and I hated it. Not only did it yank pieces of my hair out, but it took forever to get my already straight hair to look straighter. I had no idea there was a difference between ceramic flat irons and those metal plate flat irons. The one I owned was made out of some sort of brass plate.

I thought since I had no real experience with a flat iron that I had to call in the cavalry, my niece Jessica. Although her hair is beautiful, she still straightens everyday. She has owned lots of different straighteners and was able to give me some great insight about the Hana Elite. First off, she really thought the temperature gauge was very important and especially liked the location. Because it is inside of the arms it makes it harder to change the settings accidentally. She also liked how she only had to make one pass to get the full effect of the iron. She said with good irons it should only take one pass over. Finally, she thought the Hana Elite in conjunction with the Shine Shield made her hair much shinier and silkier than any other iron she has ever used.

I agree. Not only does the Hana Elite heat up quickly, but it does a great job at straightening too!

Here some features listed from their site:

* 100% Solid Ceramic Plates Never Peel or Degrade
* Tourmaline infused into the heating elements for maximum thermal protection
* Large Integrated Ceramic Heaters with Full Plate Coverage for the Most Consistent, Conditioning Far Infrared Heat Possible
* Ceramic is naturally hygienic, protects color & retards fading
* Unique black ceramic plates won't discolor with use of products or hair dyes
* Adjustable Temperature Dial - 5 Settings from 140-450° F for All Hair Types

* Safe to use on Damp to Dry Hair
* Beveled Edges mean Easy Curled, Flipped, Spiked or Straight Styles
* Ergonomic Handle Design with No-Slip Grip

* Energy Efficient at 38 Watts
* Independent On/Off Switch
